art in the classroom
“What’s the coolest part about being an artist? That YOU get to make all the decisions!” That’s a common refrain in Art in the Classroom program. Art is one of the only areas where students can really be fully creative and make their decisions about color, form, approach and message.
In this parent-powered program, K-3rd graders enjoy a 15-20 minute interactive presentation about a particular artist, genre or medium that aligns nicely with a unit of study, or the time of year, then students go back to their classrooms to channel that artist/style with parent volunteers who set up and clean up the art supplies, as well as help students consider their process. This program is a super fun & rewarding way to learn about art, and see your kids and their peers explore their creativity. Being a volunteer requires no artistic knowledge or creative genius!
Our 2023-2024 PTA Chair for Art in the Classroom is Kelly Vaillancourt. Kelly will be in need of grade-level volunteer coordinators as our program kicks off.
